My Portfolio: Abstract (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the abstract project. I chose to draw a heart with shapes inside. In the project, I used the Ellipse Tool and the Rect Tool to draw the ovals and rectangles in the heart and I used the Free Select Tool to draw the heart. I used the Fill Bucket to fill in the heart and each of the individual shapes, and the Color Tool to select the colors I wanted. Last, I used Filters, in the Artistic section, Cubism. The black background of the picture is to show the contrast of the heart compared to the world. I used analogous colors, mostly reds, oranges, pinks, and purples. This is to show that the heart is bright and warm. This project shows my skills in creating an image from a blank canvas. Hearts are my favorite things to draw. I always use unique ways of creating my hearts and this project is an example. This project shows my artistic love in hearts and abstract. I don't particularly like warm colors but it helps to show how warm and loving and caring the heart can be."

My Portfolio: Image Combining (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the image combining project. I chose a picture of a mother cheetah and her cubs. The two images that are located in the picture are a picture of a dog tail and a pig nose. I first pasted the pig picture on the cheetah picture. Then I erased everything in the pig picture except for the nose. I then copied that layer. I scaled and rotated both of the pig noses to fit onto the mother cheetah and one of her cubs. I chose to put on this nose because it almost looks real. Then I pasted the picture of the dog tail. I erased everything around the tail then I used the Hue/Saturation Tool to change the tail color from silver to an orange/tan color to match that of the cheetah. Then I copied that layer. I scaled and moved the two tails and placed them on the mother cheetah and the cub with the pig nose. I chose this project because it shows a way to combine images. I prepared a fake article for this combining. 'New breed discovered in the Rain Forest. The "Cheetah" has developed a nose like a pig. This allows them to only smell things close up. The "Cheetah" has also developed a dog-like tail. We are not sure how this evolution occurred, but we are searching closely now for any additions to other species. Since this breed of cheetah is not far from the original, we are calling this species Cheettog.' "

My Portfolio: Image Combining2 (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project mostly off of the image combining project but is not completely a combined image. I chose a picture of a famous monument, the Washington Monument. I then chose a picture of the all common Tyrannosaurus Rex. I pasted the T-Rex on the picture of the monument. I erased everything but the T-Rex then I flipped, scaled, and moved the T-Rex to make it look like it was actually there. I used the Ellipse Tool to draw the two speech bubbles for the people. I used the Brush Tool to add white inside the bubble. Then I used the Free Select Tool to draw an arrow coming from the person to the speech bubble. I used the Brush Tool again to color in both with white. I then added text inside the speech bubbles. Since the movie Godzilla featured a dinosaur, I had one of the people say Godzilla. Then because there was also the movie Jurassic Park, where the people actually new it was a dinosaur, I had someone else say that it was a dinosaur. I did this project for my own entertainment and thought it would look cool."

My Portfolio: Magazine Cover (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project on the magazine cover project. I first started a new image in GIMP and chose a size I thought would be good enough for a magazine cover. I also did this project around Halloween time. First, I used the Fill Bucket to fill in the image with an orange color. Then I used the Text Tool to add the word Halloween. Then I used it again for the word Dogs so I could change size and font and have it differ from the word Halloween. I copied and pasted a picture that I took off the internet and a picture of my dog in a costume. I then pasted these images to the cover and used the Scale and Move Tools to move them around and position them the way I wanted. Next, I used the Text Tool again to add the extra articles the cover. I did this project because one, I love small dogs and two, I love small dogs in costumes. They should make a magazine based on just dog clothing, whether it be Halloween, Christmas, or even just a normal day. I named the magazine Halloween Dogs so this magazine is just based on Halloween costumes. If this was a real magazine, I would have added a catalog so you could even order costumes from businesses."

My Portfolio: Panoramic Picture (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the panoramic project. I took all the pictures of Pleasant Lake and stuck them together. First I created a new image in GIMP that had a length of all the images' lengths put together. I then used the Hue/Saturation to try and even the colors of each of the photos separately before I copied and pasted them together. I lined up each photo so that it was in line with the next photo. I used the Opacity Tool to try and blend the edges of the photos. I then used the Crop Tool to get rid of any extra white around the edges. I chose to this project because I loved the first one so much. I chose to do Pleasant Lake because I live right next to it and because I love water, such as rivers, ponds, lakes, and even rain. This picture not only shows the skills that I have but also has a touch of my personality along with it. I tried my hardest to make sure that this image looked perfect."

My Portfolio: Rule of Thirds (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the rule of thirds project. I chose a picture that I thought was beautiful. Using the Brush Tool, I chose the color white, set the opacity between 20 and 25, and changed the brush size to 10 so that the white did not completely stand out. I placed the lines where I felt the objects of interest were. I then added a Decor Filter, Add Border to the image. I made the border black. Next, I added an Artistic Filter, Apply Canvas. I added this to both the image and the border. This makes the picture look as if it was painted and not just a photograph. I did not change much if any of the image, just enough to make a point. I wanted this image to jump out at people as it did to me. I went through Google images looking for an image that called out to me and this was it. I think this image is beautiful and graceful. Then colors blend and this skyline has a variety of brilliant colors. I wish I could have taken this photo. I also added the photo without the grid-lines and the original to the bottom."

My Portfolio: License Plate (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the license plate project. I chose an Indiana License Plate because I grew up in Indiana and plan to move there. I put RUJ3L0S on my License Plate. This means Are You Jealous. I chose this because when I get older I want a Mustang GT with a hood scoop and side scoops with a spoiler on the back and would want everyone to be jealous of my car. I first used the Eyedropper to select the background color. Then I selected the Brush Tool and colored over the text. I then created a new image with the same dimensions and a transparent background, and used the Text Tool to type RUJ3L0S. I chose to make the text size 95 so as to fit it into the area. I copied the text layer and moved it to make a drop shadow. I used the Fill Bucket to fill in the drop shadow a light blue almost white and the text black. Then, copying the text, I pasted it on the license plate. I used the Scale Tool to scale it so it looked appropriate. I wanted to make an ordinary license plate with an interesting message and some foreshadowing of the future. I chose to do this project for my portfolio because I really liked this project and because I wanted to keep the audience guessing about what the text is supposed to mean."

My Portfolio: Drawing (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the beautiful building project. I chose a staircase to draw. I used the Brush Tool to draw the lines on the staircase. The lines are very thin, almost unnoticeable. When I decided to draw the staircase, I left out a lot of the background details to focus more on just the staircase. I used the Layers Tool to add layers and move them around to view my project in different ways. I am not entirely sure what I was going for on this project but I think it turned out great. You can vividly see the staircase and the posts that hold up the glass panels. I colored how I felt would make it look unique and cool. I did not use any filters on this project. If I attempted this staircase again, I would try even harder to get exact detail. I added each layer to the bottom; Original, Original w/ Line, Original w/ Fill, White w/ Line, and White w/ Fill."

My Portfolio: Idiom (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the idiom project. A Chip on Your Shoulder means that you are angry about something that happened in the past and may even hold a grudge, carrying that burden around with you wherever you go. I chose this idiom because it describes me very well. I have a habit of carrying grudges and being angry at the littlest things. This is a picture of President Barack Obama with a potato chip on his shoulder. Of course, I chose President Obama as my person because he is the President which probably means he carries around a lot of anger and grudges even thought he may not show it. This exact picture of Obama shows him kind of grunting, like he's mad. I used a potato chip because that is what most people think of when they think of a 'chip'. I cropped the picture of Obama to focus on just him. Then I pasted the picture of the potato chip on the picture of Obama. I erased the unnecessary stuff around the potato chip. I then scaled and moved the potato chip around until it looked proportional with the picture. I used an Artistic Filter on this picture. This reminds almost reminds me of a collage of little pieces of paper or pictures. I liked the idea of doing idioms so I decided this would be a good project to add to my portfolio. I really thought that this was a good representation of this idiom."

My Portfolio: Different Point of View (P) by Dayna Elizabeth Spry

"I based this project off of the different points of view project. I used a slide in the Gunn Park for my object of interest. For this project I used the Crop, Move, Rotate, and Scale Tools to place the images side by side in a single picture. I used the Text Tool to label the images as to what view they are. I placed the images on different layers and was therefore able to add filters. I used filters under the Artistic tab. I do not remember which that I had used but I experimented until I found the filters that suited me. The Straight-Forward View is supposed to look like a sketch as if someone drew it, not took a picture. The Worms-Eye View was just darkened a little to attract your attention to the bottom of the slide. The Birds-Eye View was just to add my personal style to it. I really like this piece because it takes a simple object and makes it a big deal as well as bringing out those feelings of childhood. I can still remember being a child and thinking that slide were the coolest thing and looking up at friends as I leave the slide and again looking down on my down the slide. This view is much different in perspective as that we are older and slides are not as exciting anymore. I placed the original pictures at the bottom."
